I offer freelance copywriting, editing and proofreading
services to clients in a wide range of industries.
Many clients don't quite understand the
difference between these three skills, so here's
a brief explanation of the role of a copywriter,
editor and proofreader.
Copywriter – A copywriter
will research and write original, fresh copy for
a wide variety of purposes and media. The advantage
of using a professional copywriter is that the
copy is tailor-made for you, just as you want
it. Hiring a professional copywriter is also quicker,
cheaper and less stressful than spending hours
trying to come up with the right words yourself.
Editor – An editor will
check copy for style and grammatical errors, make
suggestions about what to change in the copy and
rewrite sections of the copy, if necessary. If
you have a first draft of a piece of writing,
you can ask an editor to take a look at it for
you and tidy it up.
Proofreader – A proofreader's
job starts just before the copy is published.
Whether this means looking at proofs before they
go off to the printers or checking web copy before
a site goes live, a proofreader will give the
copy one last read-through to catch any last-minute
typos or formatting errors.
